Google Core Algorithm Update – May 4
Google has confirmed it’s currently rolling out its May 2020 Update. Core updates are described as ‘significant, broad changes to our search algorithms and systems’ where some sites drop and others gain. Without giving much away yet it points to its Core Update blog for content best practices which include questions relating to quality, expertise, presentation and comparisons.
Coming Soon – Add your Products to Google Shopping for Free
Starting next week in the US, Google are making plans to make it free for merchants to sell on Google. These changes will take effect in the U.S. first and expand globally before the end of the year.
Google My Business Interruptions
During COVID-19 there has been limited Google My Business functionality, such as delays to business edits, claims, and verifications for new businesses. As of April 24, Google Reviews are still currently suspended in Australia, but review replies are now back active. More here.
Cost Per Click Dropping amidst COVID-19
As some advertisers pause their ads during the pandemic we’re seeing average cost per click for Google Ads and Facebook dropping across many industries.
Position Zero – Featured Snippets
Unfortunately Google recently removed the ability for a site to rank as both a featured snippet (position zero) and as an organic listing. Recent testing has proven that by keeping featured snippets you will receive more clicks and website traffic than when opting out.
